Just installed and nothing is blurred? Reload your WhatsApp Web tab. An extension cannot inject into a page that was already open before it was installed — this catches almost everyone once.
Getting started
- Install Peekless from the Chrome Web Store.
- Open web.whatsapp.com and reload the tab.
- Your chats blur immediately. Hover any message to read it — it re-blurs when you move away.
- Click the Peekless icon to choose what gets blurred, how strongly, and which mode you want.

Choosing a mode
Simple protection keeps everything blurred and you hover to read. No camera involved. Camera guard keeps your screen completely clear while you're alone and blurs when someone else appears — it needs the camera turned on, and works best with your face enrolled.
Troubleshooting
Nothing is blurred at all
Reload the WhatsApp Web tab. If you recently updated or reinstalled Peekless, the tab is still running the old copy — you'll see a small "Peekless was updated — reload this tab" notice when that happens.
Then check the popup's master switch is on, and that you're on web.whatsapp.com.
Everything is blurred and it never clears
You're most likely in Simple protection, where blur is always on by design — hover a message to read it. If you'd rather the screen stayed clear until something happens, switch to Camera guard in the popup.
Alt+Shift+R clears everything immediately, and that shortcut can never be
locked or delayed.
The camera light stays on when I switch away
It shouldn't — the camera is released within about two seconds of the tab losing focus or being hidden. If you see otherwise, please email us; that's a bug we'd want to fix immediately.
My settings and enrolled face disappeared
Removing an extension makes Chrome erase everything it stored, including your settings and face template. A plain reload of the extension keeps them; a remove and re-add does not. You'll need to enrol again.
Face recognition isn't reacting to other people
Open the Peekless setup page and use Check it works. Sitting normally you should score around 0.8–0.95; someone else should score well under 0.3. If your own score is low, enrol again somewhere better lit, sitting a little closer and facing the camera.
Note that a hard head turn lowers your score on purpose — Peekless treats that as "not sure" and dims the screen rather than declaring you a stranger.
I forgot my settings PIN
There is no recovery — only a salted hash is stored, never the PIN itself. Removing and reinstalling the extension clears it, at the cost of your settings and enrolled face.
The PIN never blocks Show everything or the panic key, so you can always clear the blur on your own screen regardless.
Does it slow WhatsApp down?
Blur is applied with CSS rather than by re-rendering anything, and DOM updates are throttled. With the camera on, Peekless analyses one still frame roughly every 1.8 seconds — not a video stream — and only while the tab is focused and visible.
Which browsers work?
Chrome 116 or newer, and Chromium browsers that support Manifest V3 extensions, including Microsoft Edge, Brave and Opera.
Reporting a problem
Email info@ai2flows.com. It helps enormously if you include:
- Your browser and version (from
chrome://version) - The Peekless version, shown at the top of the popup
- Which protection mode you were in
- What you expected, and what happened instead
Please don't send screenshots containing message content — we don't need it, and we'd rather not see it.
